LAU FARES - Aztec Records artist

LAU (Pronounced /lɑu:/) is Laura Fares, an Argentinean singer, songwriter, drummer, producer and prominent figure in the Synthwave and Retrowave scenes, currently based in Barcelona. Her music blends Retrowave and Synthpop with a strong 80s influence.

LAU’s debut album Believer was released in 2021 with acclaimed success and international press coverage. The album reached #14 on the Apple Music Electronic Album Charts in Canada, #3 in Turkey, #5 in Finland, #7 in Switzerland and #12 in Ireland.

LAU’s second album Circumstance was released in February 2022, reaching #7 in the UK on the Apple Music Electronic Album Charts, #2 in Paraguay, #4 in Portugal and #6 in Switzerland.

After the success of Circumstance came Circumstance (The Remixes), and now the Retrowave songstress and producer is back with Circumstance (Take Two), this time re-imagining her sophomore album with a fantastic group of international guest artists. Each vocalist re-wrote a part of the song, giving the whole album new life.

For Circumstance (Take Two), LAU invited Minute Taker (UK), I Am Boleyn (UK), The Lightning Kids (UK), Heartracer (USA), Pensacola Mist (UK), Lessus (Spain), Natalie Gray (UK), Alessandra Boldrini (Italy), Airport 366 (Switzerland) and Kidburn (Italy) to add their personal touch. The result is a fantastic new take on Circumstance, consisting of eleven Synthpop / Retrowave/ Nu Disco tracks as originally produced by Brian Skeel (USA), Zak Vortex (UK), Ends 84 (France), Saint Innocent (France), Popcorn Kid (India), Adam Siana (Sweden) and TAKTA (Norway). This album also includes the exclusive track Two Strangers (produced by Brian Skeel).
Even LAU’s popular cover version of Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors got a new twist, with the fantastic Minute Taker as a guest vocalist.

LAU’s music has appeared on an important Victoria’s Secret ad campaign and she has appeared in publications such as Billboard, Rolling Stone, Mixmag, DJ Mag, Marie Claire and many others. LAU is also Creative Director at Aztec Records and Aztec Latin, a UK record label she co-funded in 2010 with Ariel Amejeiras.

In 2022 LAU was selected as a Keychange artist, a EU talent development programme that promotes gender minorities in music. She’s also been nominated for the Spanish Independent Music Awards in 2021 and 2022 (Best Artist and Best Album), and the BIME Equity Awards in 2022 (Best Song).
